Band LUCY‘ 2nd EP “BLUE” Cover

LUCY recently released their second EP called “BLUE” on 7 December 2021 and there are six songs with all of them being self-written by the members. Consists of three group songs and three solo songs from Sangyeop, Yechan, and Gwangil with the title song called “Rolling Rolling”. They are one of the K-bands and one of the finalists from Superband JTBC back in 2019 and debuted in 2020. They have four members which are, Shin Yechan (violin), Choi Sangyeop (guitar and vocal), Cho Wonsang (bass and producer), and Shin Gwangil (drum and vocal).

One of the songs from that EP called “Sequel” (결국 아무것도 알 수 없었지만) had caught many attentions. This song is about someone who’s in a past relationship and this person can’t just forget about the memories they’ve made together with their loved ones. I think this is the second song they produced that sounds kind of sad after “Farther and Farther”. Not only the lyrics but the melody itself sounds sorrowful with the vocals that match the melody. Moreover, Sangyeop’s vocal when the song reaches its end showed how it really feels like to be left by someone you are still in love with.

For the first part until the pre-chorus of the song, LUCY talk about what if they could grow old together until the end of time and spend the rest of their life together. But the truth is the relationship between them didn’t last and it’s just become an imagination. They still remember the smile of their loved ones and how it becomes their comfort back then. Then, they realized that nothing lasts forever even their relationship, and started to wonder what and where did it go wrong with all of that.

Let’s stay together for a long time
Until our black hair turns white…
A very hard day wasn’t felt so hard
Because when you smiled everything went right
Every day, I rewind the scene of that day
Here alone, left behind

Perhaps it’s impossible to make things last forever…
From where did it go wrong
But still, I’m here

In the chorus, LUCY described the love story of them and reminisce all the good stuff they did. They’d regret it because their story together can’t be last and they can’t see how it ends happily as they’ve imagined. But, they don’t want those beautiful moments that had made by them together to be fade away because that is the way they will memorize it as a remembrance of their loved ones who were there for them.

But I don’t want the time I loved you
to fade away and be forgotten
like an old tape

Here in verse 2, they talk about promises after promises when they were together, such as places they wanted to go to or things they’d do together. However, those are remain as promises until they broke up and didn’t get to do all the things. They couldn’t forget their moments even promises together means they could never believe the fact that they are already on different paths and so many words that left unsaid. Even they feel hurt when they see their loved ones on the street passing by.

Places we wanted to go and things we wanted to do
Everything we promised to do
goes far away
It’s getting farther and farther as I can’t hold onto

Perhaps I can’t forget you easily
because there are so many words
that I couldn’t say
I see you even on an empty street
then my heart aches

In the next chorus, the last three bars are changed before the bridge and said they’d admit that their love story is over. The time when they were together and loved each other is like the old tape that they would just save somewhere and become their memories.

And now the time I loved you
is fading away
just like an old tape

Move into the bridge right after the last chorus, LUCY wrote the lyrics so beautifully yet so sorrowful. They still want their love story to carry on and can’t keep imagining how’s life without their loved ones beside them. They don’t want their story to end even if the time has stopped. So, they want to keep preserving their relationship no matter what happens.

In the time that stopped
there’s our story
I don’t want to think that’s the end of it

Near the end of the song after the bridge, if their loved ones still have the same feeling, they would want to meet again after a long time. Then, just like before, they would open the door for their lover while their loved ones run into them and say “I’m back” in their arms. In this part, Sangyeop’s voice really fits the way how we feel if we don’t want to let go of our loved ones.

So I’m going to continue after it

Let’s meet again when you finish your long journey
Just like the past, open the door and run into me
and say to me in my arms
